Theresa Jane Rossi Dalton A loving mother, wife, sister, and good friend to many, died on November 13, 2015. She was born February 13, 1960, to Catherine Quinan Rossi and Patrick Rossi in Shelby, North Carolina. Theresa is preceded in death by her mother and best friend, Catherine, in 2014, and her father, Patrick, in 1988.

Theresa graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro where she majored in communications. She got her start in the broadcast industry as a radio host for a country music station in Shelby. After college, she worked for several television stations including WRAL TV in Raleigh, WWAY in Wilmington, and WXII in Winston-Salem. While working in Winston-Salem in 1988, Theresa was introduced to Craig Gates Dalton, Jr. by his brother, David, who was her co-worker. They were married in Winston-Salem on April 29, 1989, and began their married life in Raleigh. Their daughter, Catherine Quinan Dalton, was born in 1993.

Theresa had a varied career, using her writing skills first in public relations for then Senate Pro Tem, Henson Barnes. In 1997, Theresa and David Dalton began producing television shows for Speed Channel cable network and in 1998, Theresa and David organized Blue Water Media LLC, a television production company. Together they produced over 18 years of television series for UNC TV including a boating travel show known as Cruising Carolina, a documentary of the history of NC Highway 64, and Flavor, NC, a farm-to-table show featuring locally produced food prepared by well-known chefs in North Carolina. Theresa had the soul of a writer that was reflected in the many television shows she helped write and produce.

Most importantly, she was the center of her extended family; lovingly and calmly rendering advice to many who sought it. Theresa took pride in her work and family, particularly in her daughter, Quinan. Stoic and warm, modest yet proud of her family and work at the same time, she carried the many burdens of others with little complaint and asked little in return. Surely she exemplified selflessness. Knowing her was to experience a little bit of heaven. Theresa will be missed and remembered by those she touched, particularly by Craig and Quinan. Their marriage of 26 years seemed like a short, yet wonderful dream. How can it be over so soon? Comforting in the knowledge that as Bishop Brent once wrote, “death is merely going from the seen to the unseen”.

Theresa is survived by her loving husband, Craig; their beloved daughter, Quinan; brothers, Chris, John (Donna), and Steve (Holly); brother-in-law, David (Kyle); father-in-law, Craig Dalton, Sr,; a favorite uncle, James Quinan of Beaconsfield, England; a favorite aunt, Jane Jaynes of Titusville, Florida; five nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives in the United States, England, and Scotland. Theresa, Craig, and Quinan were so fortunate to be a part of such a warm, gregarious, and loving family.

Also, Theresa is survived by several very close friends including Barbara Thompson of Raleigh, Kim Mann of Winston-Salem, Paula Bird of Raleigh, and Geri Fricke of Raleigh, all of whom supported Theresa and the family in her final days. Theresa’s love will continue to shine in all of them. She will be greatly missed.

The family is greatly indebted to Theresa’s physician at Duke University Hospital, Dr. Angeles Secord. During this very stressful time, Dr. Secord’s advice, guidance, and moral support were so very helpful.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on Canterbury Road in Raleigh. A reception for friends and family will follow. A graveside service will be held Thursday, 11a.m., in Sunset Cemetery, Shelby.
