Mary Alice Major Duncan died on January 17, 2022, in Jennie Stuart Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Rebecca Reeder and Rev. Anthony Barta officiating. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

A native of Christian County, she was born December 25, 1934, the daughter of William Gladstone and Dorothy Alice Lacy Major. She graduated as Valedictorian from Hopkinsville High School in 1952, attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and graduated from Purdue University with honors in 1956. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Mrs. Duncan was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, holding many offices including Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session, and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She taught Sunday School for several years.

She also served as Trustee of the Western Kentucky Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (USA), as a member of the Committee on Ministry and as Moderator of Presbyterian Women of Western Kentucky Presbytery.

For many years, Mrs. Duncan served on the Board and as President of the Pennyroyal Arts Council, was a member of Readers Guild literary club, Hopkinsville Community Concert Association, a member and President of Town and Country Homemakers Club, member and officer of Junior Auxiliary, President of the Friends of the Library, and member and officer of the Col. John Green Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member and President of the La Petite Fleur Garden Club, a member of the Church Hill Grange Community Club, the Pennyroyal Area Museum, the Christian County Historical Society, and was on the Advisory Board of the Carnegie Architectural Library and Design Resource Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Graham Duncan IV.

Survivors include two sons, William Graham Duncan V (Kelly) of Owensboro, Rives Major Duncan (Jan) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and her daughter, Andrea Louise Craft (David) North Laurel, Md. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
