ORA CARTER

Leoran Quintillis (Ora) Carter was born in Reno County, Kansas, October 31, 1894, one of 13 children born to Levi and Alta Carter. They moved to Grant County when Ora was a small child. He was united in marriage to Bertha Belle Anderson, March 25, 1916, in Ulysses. To this union was born twin daughters, Laura and Laurette. Their oldest granddaughter, Jeane, also made her home with them. They lived in the Menno Community until 1920 when they moved to Lakin. He worked as a barber for Charlie Smith and in 1929 he started work as a mechanic for the Judd Motor Co. In 1929 he and Jim Winland went into business as mechanics at the Sandy Camp now Petersons. He later built a shop at his home on Hamilton Street, which he operated until his retirement. Mrs. Carter died in 1963. He was married to Mrs. Alice Gillispie in Canon City, Colorado, October 11, 1964, where he lived until his death.

He was interested in fishing, hunting and gardening and was especially proud of the excellent roses in his garden. Death came as he was working in his yard Tuesday, May 19, in Canon City. He was 75 years 6 months and 19 days of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha, and daughter, Laura.

Surviving him is the widow, Alice, of Canon City, Colorado; a daughter, Lauretta McCue, Lakin.
