Laura was the daughter of Leoran (Ora) and Bertha (Anderson) Carter born in the northwest part of Grant County. Her twin sister was Lauretta Grace. They were raised in Lakin, KS. Laura married Donald M. Peterson 27 July 1940. While in Lakin she was deputy county clerk for Kearny county and during World War II served on the Kearny county ration board. After moving to Ulysses, she worked five years as secretary for Grant County Extension Office. Laura was active in Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star and Sweet Adelaines. Laura and Don had three children: Joyce Donellen, James M., John M.
