Nelvia Vande Griend, 95, of Hull passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at Hull.

Nelvia Lillian was born on Aug. 3, 1912, at Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Gerrit William and Gertrude (Brantsen) Kosters. She was raised at Rock Valley, where she graduated from the Christian School.

On July 8, 1932, she married Floyd Vande Griend at Hull. They farmed at Hull until 1962, when they retired into Hull. He passed away on Nov. 19, 1993, in Hull, after more than 61 years of marriage. In the fall of 1999, Mrs. Vande Griend was a homemaker and also served as a kitchen aide at the Pleasant Acres Care Center and as a foster grandparent at Hope Haven in Rock Valley. Nelvia became a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where she had been active in the Helping Hands Society. She was a former member of the Middleburg Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include her five children, Jerace, Joyce, Lyla, Myrna and Veralyn; 19 grandchildren;, 53 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Freda.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Henry Koning; a great-grandson; and five brothers and sisters, William Kosters, John Kosters, Lillian Niekerk, Allen Kosters and Henry Kosters.
