A month after their marriage, the newlyweds sailed for America to join David Rattray, Clement's father, and the rest of the family in America. Clement's father, David Rattray, built a home large enough for his whole family and their families in Minnesota. In the Martin Co Sentinel of Oct. 6, 1882, it states "Mr. Davis of Fairmont has about completed an elegant and commodious residence for Mr. Rattray, on the eastern shore of Cedar Lake. Mr. Rattray is expecting his family very soon, and thinks more of his friends will locate near."
The young couple, listed as Gent and Lady, arrived in New York 10 Aug 1883 on the City of Rome (1881-1902). The ship had sailed from Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland.
Clement and Olivia's first known child, Charlton Oswald Rattray, was born 29 Apr 1886 in Lake View, Cedarville, Martin Co, MN.
It appears the family had given up on the rural life and dream of the patriarch, David Rattray, after his death.
The family was in St Paul, MN. by 1888 where, on Jul 20, 1888, Clement Fraser Rattray, their second known child, was born.
Olivia Harriet Fraser Rattray died from complications of childbirth 27 Jul 1888 in St. Paul. Clement was left to care for his young sons alone.
Clement Rattray was married to Ann Jane McKaig on 10 Dec 1892 in San Francisco, CA. They were married by William M. Pearl, minister in charge Catholic Apostolic Church, 686 Eighteenth St., San Francisco, CA. The whole family was in California at this time.
The family left California for Chicago, Illinois between 1896 and 1899. Clement David Rattray died in Chicago in 1910.
