Ennis had a twin brother, Dennis Courtland, who died in infancy and is buried in Pere Marquette Cemetery in Ludington, Mason County, Michigan.
Ennis's first wife was Alie Conrad, daughter of Alfred Conrad and Martha Smith, whom he married in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella County, Michigan on April 22, 1903.
Ennis's second wife was Blanche Jane Duprey, whom he married in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan on August 6, 1916.
In adulthood, Ennis often used the name "Dennis" as well as "Ennis".
("Michigan Death Records, 1921-1947", Item ID 005240491_01743 at SeekingMichigan.)
Note: Ennis's death certificate was issued in the name of "Dennis Courtland", and his mother was listed as "Mary Scott." Dennis's father's first wife was Mary Kreiser, so the informant may have been confused about her maiden name. Another family source claims that Ennis and Dennis were twins born to William Courtland and Eliza Reed, who is listed as his mother on Ennis's marriage record to his first wife Alie Conrad. On the marriage record to his second wife Blanche Duprey, both of Ennis's parents are listed as unknown.
