E.W. Courtland Expires Today

Scottville – Ernest W. Courtland, 66, of Scottville Route 2 died early this morning at Paulina Stearns Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

He was born Sept. 12, 1891, in Ludington and spent his early boyhood in Custer. Mr. Courtland was married in 1914 in Sherman Township to Lettie Gulembo, who survives. The couple resided in Sherman Township except for 12 years when they lived in Grand Rapids, moving back to Sherman Township in 1930.

Mr. Courtland was a pipefitter by trade.

Surviving are his widow, Lettie; five daughters, Mrs. Carl (Helen) Shedina and Mrs. Robert (Florence) Terryn of Muskegon, Mrs. Paul (Phyllis) Ruzgis of Grand Ledge, Mrs. Wilbert (Eleanor) Wagner of Marquette and Mrs. JoAnn Amador of Scottville Route 2; four sons, William, Elmer, and Jack of Scottville Route 2 and Frederick of Muskegon; his mother, Mrs. Henrietta Henry of Ludington; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Young of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Mrs. Elizabeth Sweet of Jacksonville, Fla.; a half-sister, Mrs. Robert Carr of Ludington; one half-brother, Roy Henry of Custer Route 1; 21 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The body is at Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville.
