Ruth was born in Bluff, Okla., on June 18, 1926, one of seven children to Oner P. and Gertie Mae Allison Parsons of Hugo, Okla. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, cherished by her family and friends. After graduating from Goodland High School, Ruth came to Dallas, with $20 in her pocket, and went to work at Texas & Pacific Railroad where she met her husband, James Vern Hammond. While there she was on the bowling and softball teams traveling by train to matches. Ruth took time off from work to raise her two children, James Michael Hammond and Janelle Hammond Wagner. Later she went to work at LTV Aircraft Products in the data processing department for many years. She enjoyed fishing, various car games especially video poker, dominoes ("42") and was a very talented cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, James Vern Hammond, and her son, James Michael Hammond, of 54 years. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, kindness and devotion to her family and friends.
Survivors: Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Bill Wagner; granddaughters, Amanda Gail Cochran, Ashley Nicole Middleton and Alexandria Denise Hammond; her sister, Maebern Bailey of District Heights, Md.; brother, Lloyd Parsons of Hugo, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
