Obituary

Jerry M. Cordell, son of Irwin [Irvin] and Malinda Cordell, was born in Taylor county, Iowa, June 14,1863, and departed this life near Maloy, Iowa, Dec. 6, 1922, aged 59 years, 5 months and 22 days.

He grew to manhood in Taylor County, and made his home there until about two years ago. On June 10, 1888, he was united in marriage to Esther [Amelia] Morris. To this union were born eight children: Mrs. Jessie Cavin, of Athelstan; George, Bessie, Otis, Marion, Lloyd and Clarence, and Ernest who died in infancy.

Mr. Cordell passed away very suddenly, and leaves to mourn his departure, his companion and seven children, besides one brother; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The son, Otis, arrived from California the day before his father's death. The children were all present except George, who is at Weston, and Bessie, who is a member of Hope Mission in Omaha. Both of them were able to come home for the funeral.

He united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church while a young man.

The funeral services were conducted from the Athelstan Baptist church, Dec. 8, by Challie E. Graham, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at the same place.

The bereaved ones have the sympathy of a large number of friends in this hour of sorrow. We commend them to the comforting grace of the all-loving Father. May they trust Him and follow His Son Jesus Christ, Who will lead them safely into the sinless, tearless, and deathless land when the journey here is ended.
