John E. Cordell, son of Irvin and Malinda Cordell, was born in Wilson County, Kansas, December 14, 1867, and passed away at his home in Maloy, Iowa, January 21, 1932, aged 64 years, 1 month and 7 days.
With his parents he moved to Iowa at the age of 7 years and made his home in this state the remaining years of his life.
On Feb. 9, 1889, he was united in marriage to Iona May Finch. To this union four children were born, three of whom are living.
He is survived by his wife and three children---Gladys Rosetta Walkup of Bedford and [Isaac] Merle and Charlie [Charles Roswell] Cordell of Maloy. Also eight grandchildren and a number of relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers. He was the last of a family of six children to be called to the great beyond.
When a young man he united with the Baptist church at Mt. Zion. H e was a true husband, loving father and loved and respected by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at the Blockton Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Warrior, and interment made in Rose Hill cemetery.
