Coach Mike Thompson, 58, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015.
Mike was born on September 15, 1957 in Hampton, Virginia. He was a Firefighter and Alarm Room Operator at Robins Air Force Base until his retirement. Mike had a passion for coaching and helping children, he was a beloved youth tennis coach for 20 years and Little League Baseball coach for 5 years. He also volunteered his time helping coach in the Georgia Special Olympics League. Mike was also a member of the IAFF Firefighters Union-Robins Air Force Base Chapter.
His parents, Walker and Lorraine Barth Thompson, and brother, Steven Thompson, preceded him in death.
Visitation with family and friends will be Monday, November 9, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, Coach Thompson will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Coach Mike Thompson to Georgia Special Olympics, 4000 Dekalb Technology Pkwy, Atlanta, Ga 30340.
