Hester Smith, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 7, 2004 at the Pine River Healthcare Center in St. Louis, Michigan.
Hester was born on April 2, 1919 in Sunfield, Michigan, the daughter of Nelson and Elizabeth (Baughman) Lumbert. On September 10, 1935, she married Guy L. Smith in Isabella County. Guy preceded her in death on December 13, 2003. Hester enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, and gardening. For many years, she and Guy built houses in the area.
Survivors include her children, Ray and Jacquelyn Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Roger Smith of Shepherd, Gary and Janice Smith of Shepherd, Shirley Curtiss of Blanchard, and Betty and Glen Stiff of Mt. Pleasant. 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Daniel and Raymond Lumbert, and a sister Dora Harrington. Hester was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, brothers Archie, David, and Junior Lumbert, sisters Florence Squire, Marie Heinlein, and Elsie Saumier and a grandson Brian Curtiss.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Rolla Timmons officiating. Interment took place in the Chippewa Township Cemetery, Isabella County. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Pine River Healthcare Center
