Patricia L. Meeks (Mema)

July 4, 1938 — October 29, 2015

On July fourth 1938 a sweet angel was born into this world. Patricia Lou Odle was the second child of Fred and Arvilla Odle, born in Mansfield Missouri and eventually moved to Bakersfield California at the age of seven. Although she lived most of her childhood and all of her adult life in Bakersfield she was always a Missourian at heart. It was in high school that she met the most important man in her life Tom Meeks; it was love at first sight for the two of them. They married on November 10, 1956, and became lifelong partners. They were inseparable, not long after they were married came their daughters Robin, Tami, and Tracy. The girls meant the world to both of them. Tom and Pat would enjoy many family activities with their girls and eventually came the grandkids, eight in all. Once the three girls were grown, Pat became Mema and picked up right where she left off with her own daughters, she was now raising grandkids. This was a very special time in her life and it brought many years of joy to her. Although she had taken on this new duty, her love for Tom never slowed. Pat and Tom proceeded to be the best grandparents in the world, going above and beyond what typical grandparents would do. In 2008, another dream of hers was accomplished when she and Tom were able to build a new house in the country, right next door to their grandson. Pat loved that home and Tom made sure to build a desk for her in the window where she loved to sit and watch the country sunsets. The seven years spent in that beautiful country home were some of her happiest moments. On October 24, 2015, Pat was able to attend her grandson's wedding and even though he teased her that she was too old to dance, she still got out there and did a better job than him! Mema always loved to be teased and she would give it right back! She was the rock that held this family together. Pop and Mema are the best parents and grandparents that any kids or grandkids could ever dream of having.

On October 29, 2015, Mema went to be with the Lord. She had always said that she was never scared to go. She will be missed by so many friends and family and most of all by her wonderful beloved husband of sixty years.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her daughter Robin. She is survived by her husband Thomas F. Meeks Jr. (Pop), her grandson Josh Howells and his wife Ashley Howells, their six kids Hannah, Brooklyn, Jack, Riley, Julian, and Alexis, her granddaughter Abbie Howells and Nadine Spencer, and her granddaughter Amanda Pitts and her three children Halie, Zack, and Austin, also her two sisters Laura Ward and Beverly Worthington as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mema has gone home to be with the Lord and will be missed every day.
