One can trace Henry's ancestry to James Ensign (FindaGrave ID 34915521) whose name appears on the First Settlers Monument in Hartford, Conn. being associated with Thomas Hooker in the Americas and the Massachusetts Bay Colony in about year 1634. ----- Henry Ensign had been studying in a physician's office for 2 years when, at age 18, he was drafted into the War of 1812. Later he studied and taught school for 7 years. After his marriage, he farmed; then owned & ran a tavern; then purchased a large farm near Brunswick. Like his forebearers, he was hard working and a concerned citizen. Henry was industrious and with prudent foresight he invested wisely. This enabled him to aid patriotic causes. The Post Henry Ensign, No. 568, Dept. of New York, G.A.R. and the Post Henry Ensign Band were named after him.
