Elsie Louise Cohlmia Simon passed away with her family by her side on April 23,2022. She was born on November 19,1927 in Gate, Oklahoma to Adeeb and Najeeba Cohlmia (Ghoulmieh). Upon graduating from Watonga High School with many honors, including homecoming queen her junior year, she attended the University of Oklahoma for one year until she went back home to help in the family business. In 1953 she married Dr. Floyd Simon Sr. who stated "marrying Elsie was the best decision of my life". They spent their entire married life in Clinton, Oklahoma where they raised their family.
Elsie was very active in a multitude of civic organizations and community activities including Chapter EV P.E.O., Junior Service League, Meals on Wheels, Newcomers Club, Worthwhile, Bingo at the nursing home, Medical Auxiliary, Presbyterian Women's Club and numerous Bridge Clubs. Extremely important to her was being involved with her children's activities, daily coffee hours with her sisters in law and friends and following the Clinton Red Tornadoes and Oklahoma Sooners.
No one was a stranger to Elsie. Their home was open to all, where food was always lovingly served to others. She was recognized and admired for her culinary skills and her warm and gracious hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Dr. Floyd Simon Sr.; her parents and in laws, Adeeb and Najeeba Cohlmia ; Najeeb and Adele Simon; her siblings and in laws, Florence and Harry Kouri, Josephine and Ted Shadid, Fred and Liz Cohlmia, Gorden and Minerva Cohlmia, Velma and Phil Swyden, Margaret and Sam Homsey, George Cohlmia, Dr. Ray and Sameera Cohlmia, Dr. Woody Cohlmia, Sam and Jeanne Simon, Smye and M.A. Dick Farha, Sally and Cecil Saied, Ernest and Bernell Simon, Mitchell and Mary Simon, Dr. Ralph Simon, and daughter in law Stephanie Simon. Elsie is survived by her children Dr.Floyd Jr. and Susie Simon, Dr. David and Tami Simon, Lisa and Chip Taylor, John Robert Simon; her grandchildren, Shelbi and Jeff Blank, Stephanie Simon and Finnian Donnelly, Floyd III and Corinne Simon, Clinton Simon, Kouri and Dr Mark Ajalat, Jenna and Tyler Woodward, Jacob and Elaine Simon, Sela and Michael Mesigh, Alexis Simon, Rachel Simon, John Robert Simon Jr. and fiancé Danni Chilcott, Kooper and Raul Caballeros; great grandchildren, Jeffrey Blank, Larkin Simon, Benjamin Blank, Floyd Simon IV, Emery Woodward, Tyler James Woodward Jr, and Grayson Ajalat; sisters in law, Carletta Simon and Phyllis Cohlmia and numerous loving and caring nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes out to her attentive and dedicated caregivers Tammy Barron, Brandi Garcia, Marisela Garcia, Isabel Garcia and to Shepard Home Health staff.
The family will hold a visitation on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 4-6 pm at Smith Kernke N. May Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at St Elijah Orthodox Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Dr. Floyd and Elsie Simon Scholarship Fund at the University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 West Timberdell Road Norman, OK 73019, benefitting Clinton Public School students
