William Doran Clark was born March 31, 1925 in Fort Benning, Georgia, the son of General Mark W. Clark, USA (1896 - 1984) and Maurine Doran Clark. Like his father and grandfather before him, William attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated with the class of 1945 (Graduate # 14840).

William served Army tours in the US, Austria, Italy, Japan, and Korea. He saw combat in the Korean War and for his valor he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and three Purple Hearts with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired from the Army in 1955 with the rank of major.

Major Clark married Audrey Caire (1925-2008) in 1953. They had three daughters - Louise, Doran, and D'Wayne.
He married Suzanne King (1937 - 2008). She had two children.

Major Clark served as a civilian at the Pentagon, where he held various positions, including Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs). In 1989, he received the Distinguished Civilian Service Award. He retired from the Pentagon in 1994.

Major Clark died September 28, 2015 on his daughter's farm in Washington, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne.
