Doris Hansen Falslev
February 23, 1928 - May 13, 2015

Doris H. Falslev was born to Merrill Vernon and Della Frederick Hansen in the front room of her grandmother's home in Providence, Utah on the 23rd of February 1928. She passed away at the Autumn Care Assisted Living Center in Hyde Park, Utah in the early morning hours of the 13th of May 2015. Doris was preceded in death by her parents of College Ward, Utah.
Doris is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, LaRon Falslev of Benson, Utah, and her 9 children: Judy (Robert) Davis of Hyrum, Marla (Duane S.) Brown of Wellsville, Marilyn (Joseph) Creech of Cornish, Scott (Diane Stembridge) of Benson, Lynn (Tina Moosmann) of Clinton, William Wayne (Leslie Mendelkow) of College Ward, Ronda (Sheldon) Olson of Benson, Laurie (Nephi) Wirthlin of Orem, and Shane (Angie Wegener) of North Logan. She leaves behind 48 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren. Her siblings are Grace (Dennis, deceased) Griffin of Logan, Norma (Jack) Howells of Indio, CA, Marilyn (Russ) Wayman of College Ward, Mervin "Pete" (Dottie) Hansen of Neptune, NJ, and Ellen (John, deceased) Call of West Bountiful.

Doris graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University. Her Social Work degree with a minor in Secretarial Science (1959) helped her obtain her teaching certificate. While this opened other career doors, she felt her most important job was 'mom' and focused her efforts and attention on her children. Besides helping on the family dairy farm, she also typed term papers and theses for students at Utah State. She worked outside the home to help establish the family, first for Billy Baugh as a secretary in his auto dealership, then as a nurse's aide at the Sunshine Terrace, at Cache Valley Dairy turning milk from her husband's farm into the famous cheese, and also at Herff-Jones Yearbooks.

Doris cherished her time serving in the Benson Ward. She taught children, was a cub-scout den mother, served in the relief society, and more recently served as historian for the ward. In addition to her youthful service in the Eastern States Mission where she made lifetime friends in Virginia and the Carolinas, she twice returned with her husband to the mission fields to serve the Native Americans of Shiprock, New Mexico and Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Doris loved to travel. She visited England where her son Scott served his mission, and toured China with alumni of USU. She also enjoyed crafting: quilts, baby blankets, knitting, crocheted novelties, as well as planting flowers. Much garden produce was stored for the winter through her efforts. Among her favorite 'fun' recipes were her mother's hard-tack 'honey candy' and homemade breads, rolls, 'spudnuts', and scones. On her birthday in 1971, she gave a kidney to her son to enable him to quit dialysis.

She loved visits from her family while in assisted living, especially the maple bars from Johnny O's brought by grandson Davis. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for Xochitl (pronounced 'so she'), Lindsey, Darrell, and the entire staff at Autumn Care assisted living in Hyde Park for their wonderful, compassionate, and patient assistance given to her in her final days. They will also be forever grateful for the skill and care of doctors Steven Salisbury and Christian Nilson.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. Friends and family may say farewell at the Benson Ward Church (3472 N 3000 W., Benson) Friday, May 15, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and again Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:30. Her funeral will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment at the Logan City cemetery.

In lieu of cut flowers, the family would like to encourage memorial donations to the missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or to your charity of choice.
