BEULAH JEAN TOLLETT RECTOR

July 19, 1914 ~ April 9, 2006

Beulah Jean Tollett Rector, 90, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005, at her home in Bethel.

She was the eighth of nine children born to James Thomas Tollett and Florence Tennessee Rice Tollett.

On Dec. 28, 1939, Beulah married Johnnie Rector and they began a life together that lasted until his death in 1982. They raised two children, Jim and Betty. Beulah also had twin sons, Larry and Jerry, who died at birth.

"Grandma Beulah" had a knack for making her kids and grandkids feel special. She was quiet and dignified and always took time to listen.

She was famous for her dill pickles, vegetable soup and chocolate biscuits. She kept her cookie jar full of fresh peanut butter cookies and circus peanuts.

She liked black coffee, Salem cigarettes, and a good game of dominoes or cards. She never drove a day in her life, but she swept the leaves off of her roof and cleaned her own chimney when she was in her 70s.

In Grandma's house, there was a place for everything and everything was in its place. She lived a long, fruitful life, and passed from it surrounded by love. She was the rock of her family, whether she knew it or not; and although she will be missed greatly here, her family is waiting in heaven with open arms.

Beulah was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; her sons; three brothers; one half brother; four sisters; and her great-grandson, Chase Bess.

Beulah leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Betty Phillips, Bethel; one daughter-in-law, Jean Rector, Arlington, Texas; one brother ans sister-in-law, Raymond and Annie Bell Tollett, Pasadena, Texas; two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Kurt Phillips, Bethel, and Jeff and Shirley Rector, Cleburne, Texas; six granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Paula Osmar, Arlington, Texas, Annette and Kenny Mowrer, Mansfield, Texas, Connie Phillips and Ricky Smith, Smithville, Jamie Phillips and Keith Shearer, Hochatown, Lisa and Randell Harkey, Oak Hill Community, and Heidi Phillips and Ryan Wood, Durant; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter-in-law, Lt. Brock Marable, Germany, Zath and Joy Marable, Stillwater, Kevin Osmar, Arlington, Texas, Morgan Bailey, Hochatown, and Jarrett and Justin Rector, Cleburne, Texas; eight great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons-in-law, Raven Marable and Bill Wax, Minden, La., Heather and Dena Mowrer, Mansfield, Texas, Stefanie Osmar and Eric Rodriquez, Arlington, Texas, Amber Bailey, Hochatown, Alyssa Kessler and Carlee Harkey, Oak Hill Community, and Scout Smith, Smithville; one great-great-granddaughter, Alicia Rodriguez, and one great-great-grandson, Eric Rodriguez, both of Arlington, Texas; and a host of family and friends. (Note: the obituary had Stefanie Osmar and Eric Rodriquez ... Alicia Rodriguez, Eric Rodriguez. The last names should be the same, but I don't know which one is correct.)

Until her death, Mrs. Rector was the oldest living member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Services were at 10 a.m. today, April 12, 2005, at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Perry Martin officiated. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery.
