Gwendolyn Berry Reeves, 85, wife of Reuben Reeves for 66 years, of 203 Crestline Drive, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born June 24, 1923, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Elliott Whitney Berry and Grace Arledge Berry of Parris Bridge Road. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Spartanburg and its Deaf Ministry.

Mr. and Mrs. Reeves met as children at South Carolina School for the Deaf, where as a student she played basketball and was captain of the team her senior year. She was also honored as May Queen. Gwendolyn and Reuben married after graduation.

Additional survivors are two daughters, Jane Babb, wife of Johnny Babb of Inman and Ann Petty of Spartanburg; grandchildren Lori B. and Tray Witt, Jennie C. and Greg Bulman, Tracy B. and David Brown, Kathie G. Caston, Mitzi B. and Kevin Bragg, Brent and Haley Babb, Jacque S. Petty and fianc David Graham; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Lena Cannon.

Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Floyds Boiling Springs Chapel on Highway 9. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 in the Chapel, conducted by Rev. Manning Strickland and Dr. Alton Brant. Burial will be in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery on Parris Bridge Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
