Originally an instructor in the Polish Air Force he managed to escape from Poland to France in 1939 and became a fighter pilot in the Groupe de Chasse 1/145, Armee de L'Air. On the fall of France he escaped to England and joined No. 302 Polish Fighter Squadron, Royal Air Force. He was eventually posted to No. 306 Polish Fighter Squadron, Royal Air Force and was its Squadron leader from 15 April 1942 to 22 August 1942. He was killed when his aircraft (Spitfire Mk Vb; sn: EN826; UZ-C) was shot down by anti-aircraft fire when on a mission against airfields in the St Omar area.
