Edwin F. "Jim" Thranert, 76, of 70 N. 26th St., died Friday at Lakeview General Hospital. where he had been a patient five weeks.He was born in Brazos, Texas and spent most of his life in Battle Creek.
He was purchasing agent and general manager for the former Adolph Johnson Steele Fabricating, Co. and retired in 1967.Thranert served in the U. S. Army for a brief time after World War I. He was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, serving as chalis bearer and vestryman. He was one of the longest-serving lay readers at the church.
He was a member of the Battle Creek Kiwanis Club since 1942 and served as president of the club in 1949. He was a member of the American Red Cross and was active in the Civil Defense Program in Battle Creek during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, the former Isabella "Ella" Ferguson; a son, Robert J. Thranert of Joplin, Mo.; three grandchildren and five sisters.Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
