SUFFIELD, Conn. - Rodney M. Gray Jr., 88, of Suffield, Conn., passed away peacefully on May 6, 2015, at Touch Points at Chestnut in East Windsor, Conn., with his son by his side. Rodney was born on May 19, 1926, in Queens, N.Y., to Rodney M. Gray Sr. and Ella (Tropp) Gray.
As a child, his family moved to Machias, where he resided until he enlisted into the army at the age of 24. He served four and a half years in the combat infantry including the Korean War and Japan.
After his discharge from the army he settled down in Suffield, Conn., where he had a small farm. His favorite passion was his love for horses. He spent most of his life as a laborer in the construction business.
He was predeceased by his younger son Leonard (Rusty) Gray. He is survived by his son Philip E. Gray and his wife Gloria of Maine; grandson Robert W. Gray of Massachusetts, Eric M Gray and his wife Madison and their son Sidney W. Gray of Maine, son Albert L. Johnson and his wife Jean Maskers of Maine, daughter Darlene Gray of Minnesota and her children Alan Gray, Stephen Gray, Jennifer Brown, Justin Brown; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Rodney will be laid to rest with honors at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Services will be held graveside. Arrangements are made by Hobbs Funeral Home. (Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram 5/25/2015)
