Michael Dale “Mike” Messer, 62, of Candler, N.C. went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Waynesville and a lifelong resident of Candler, Mike was a 1971 graduate of Enka High School and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was the retired founder of Mike’s Heating and Cooling, and was a former racecar driver on many of the NASCAR tracks throughout the Southeast. Mike was an avid car enthusiast and also enjoyed fishing and spending time in his garage. He will be remembered as a very loving and selfless person.

Mike was the son of Edith Sue Vance Messer of Candler and the late William Clyde Messer.

In addition to his mother, he was survived by his wife, Kim Messer, whom he married September 6, 1998; sisters: Vickie Ruth Messer Childers and husband Morris, and Donna Lynn Messer Dorlan and husband Scotty, all of Candler; brother, David Lee Messer and wife Pat of Candler; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at 5:00 PM Monday, October 26, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Gene King officiating.

The family would like to offer a special “Thank You” to the many friends who showed their love by spending time with Mike over the past few years. They would also like to wish heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Mission Hospitals Neuro-Trama ICU for the loving and compassionate care shown to Mike.
