William L. “Bill” Gregory, 94, of Greenville, passed away February 24, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Mae Waller and Andrew Harrison Gregory. Bill graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1941. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, and was a former member and Deacon of Central Baptist Church.

Bill retired from Norfolk Southern Railway as locomotive engineer after 40 years of service. He remained active in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Retired Railroad Association and Greer Amateur Radio Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rhunette “Smitty” Gregory; and his two brothers, A. Harrison Gregory and J. Norman Gregory.

Bill is survived by his sister Frances “Sis” Gregory; a sister-in-law, Nancy Gregory; a brother-in-law, Tony Smith; nephews, Harry Gregory, Eugene Gregory, Joel Gregory and Jack Gregory; nieces, Beth G. Bianco and Mary Ann Gregory; and special friends Ken and Anne Norton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1:00pm at The Mackey Mortuary. Private burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the mortuary.

Pallbearers will be Robert Hamilton, Bill Payne, Dr. Joe Gibson, Tim Greaves, David Peart, and Richard Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Greer Amateur Radio Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Oak Baptist Church, 1805 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville, SC 29609.
