US Air Force Veteran, 1956-1960
Charles A Jewell, Sr, 76, of Corry, died on Sunday, October 17, 2015, at Corry Memorial Hospital. He was born in Corry on February 10, 1939, a son of the late Harold and Violet Bowman Jewell.
Charles graduated from Corry Area High School and enlisted in the US Air Force. He served with the 4135th Combat Defense Squadron from 1956 until June 1960.
Upon his return home, he was employed as a mailman with the US Postal Service in Corry for 36 years. He was a life member of the Corry VFW. He was an ardent Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. He also enjoyed gardening, sports, country music and spending time with his cat and two dogs.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carole Brown Jewell, on May 26, 2014. Further preceding him in death were seven brothers, Raymond, Robert, Kenneth, Larry, Thomas, Walter and Everett and three sisters, Martha Woods, Carol Shields and Marion Richards.
He is survived by three sons, Charles A Jewell, Jr, and his wife Yon of Coudersport, Pa, Steven L Jewell of Corry and Timothy S Jewell of Union City; one brother, William Jewell and his wife Joan of Corry; two sisters, Lena Peterson of Youngsville and Virginia Jewell of Warren; and by his grandson, Zachary C Jewell of Union City.
Burial will be private in East Branch Cemetery, Spring Creek, Pa. The C. S. Warthman Funeral Home, Inc, Union City, is in charge of arrangements.
