Rose Melba Meaux Legere

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Rose Melba Legere, 96, who died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Eastridge Assisted Living Center.

She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Kendal Faulk officiating the services.

Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Livaudais, Matthew Livaudais, George Legere, Kevin Brazan, Andre Legere, Phillip Legere, Jacques Stafford, and John Stafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Brazan, Felix Legere, Craig Brazan, James Stafford, and Fred Livaudais.

Rose Melba Meaux was born on October 28, 1918 in Kaplan, LA, the youngest of six children, to Felix Meaux and the former Elizia Labry. She resided in Kaplan her entire life.

On June 10, 1950, she married Paul Ashton Legere and they were married 45 years until his death in 1995.

She was very involved with Maltrait Memorial School and the Maltrait Mother’s Club where all five of her children attended. A devout Catholic, she was very active in her church parish, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She organized the Catholic Daughter’s Court and was the first Grand Regent. For many years, she was a member of the Vermilion Homemaker’s Club, in which she won several awards for her talents as a seamstress. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Marie L. and her husband, Alfred Livaudais of Enterprise, Alabama, Catherine L. and her husband, Craig Brazan of Lafayette, Felix Paul Legere and his wife, Laurie of Abbeville, and Margie L. and her husband, James Stafford of Thibodeaux; her daughter-in-law, Louise R. Legere of Beaumont, Texas; fifteen grandchildren, Amy L. and her husband, Ben McCarrick, Christopher Livaudais, Matthew Livaudais and his wife, Chloe, George Legere, Lindsey Brazan, Jeremy Brazan and his wife, Kim, Kevin Brazan, Melissa Brazan, Leah L. and her husband, Patrick Fisher, Andre Legere, Phillip Legere and his wife, Jacie, Elise L. Faulk and her husband, Jake, Jacques Stafford, Renee Stafford, and John Stafford; eight great grandchildren, Grace, Olivia, Sadie, and Charlotte McCarrick, Halle, Zachary, and Tucker Brazan, and Allana Judge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ashton Legere; one son, Alfred Claude Legere; three brothers, Caesar Meaux, Dalton Meaux, and Clifton Meaux; two sisters, Lydia M. Abshire and Grace M. Richard; and her parents, Felix Meaux and the former Elizia Labry.

Mrs. Legere’s family would like to thank the staff at Heart of Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to their mother during her last days, and to the staff at Eastridge Assisted Living Center for making their mother feel so welcome and loved over the last five years. Mrs. Melba could not have been in better hands.
