A Stabsfeldwebel and Beobachter [observer] with 12 Staffel Kampfgeschwader 2 he died on a mission on 3 May 1942, his aircraft (Do17Z-2; wn:3306; U5+CW) presumably crashing into the sea as his body was washed ashore at Chesil Beach, Dorset on 5 September 1942. The bodies of the rest of the crew: Flugzeugführer [pilot] Oberfeldwebel Albert Heyer, Bordfunker [wireless operator] Feldwebel Helmut Fahle and Bordmechaniker [flight engineer] Oberfeldwebel Heinrich Pillmann were never found.

Recipient of the Iron Cross 1st Class. Born in Bolko.
