to serve a three year tour, and mustered in as private, Co. B, 91 NY INF October 5, 1861; transferred to Co. F , October 10, 1861; promoted corporal prior to April, 1862; killed in action, May 27. 1863,before Port Hudson, La. ; also borne as Salisbury and Salisbury.


Port Hudson was the site of the longest siege in American history, lasting 48 days, when 7,500 Confederates resisted some 40,000 Union soldiers for almost two months during 1863. In the first attempt to take Port Hudson, in May, the Confederates repulsed the Federal advance across Slaughter's Field, killing approximately 2,000 Union soldiers. Andrew would have been one of them.
