HUHTALA, Martha (nee: LEPPANEN). Martha Huhtala (nee: Leppanen) died Thursday, May 2, 1985 at the age of 85. The obituary dated Friday, May 3, 1985 (p.2) from The Sudbury Star reads: “A longtime resident of Whitefish, Martha Huhtala of RR 1 Parry Sound, died there yesterday morning. She was 85. The former Martha Leppanen, she was born in Viipuri, Finland. After living in Whitefish for many years, she moved to Parry Sound in 1973. Her husband, Kalle Huhtala died in 1944. She was a cook at various lumber and railway camps. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. She is survived by one son, Vilho Robert of Parry Sound. Another son, Oiva Oswald, predeceased her in 1947. She was grandmother of our and great grandmother of eight. She was a sister of the late Niilo Leppanen. The body is at the Lougheed Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Laaksonen officiating. Interment in the Park Lawn Cemetery.”
