Zachary N. Thompson, 75 or rural St. Michael, ND passed away on Friday evening, October 9, 2015 at rural St. Michael, ND.

The Wake for Zachary will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Sunday, October 18, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. with Gerard Thompson officiating. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday from the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Native American Church Cemetery, rural St. Michael.

Zachary Nicholas was born at home in Cannonball, ND to Obed and Hattie (Ironlightning) Thompson on January 6, 1940. He attended school at Little Flower in St. Michael, ND. He lived most of his life on the Spirit Lake Nation Reservation. He worked various jobs around the Lake Region.

Zachary enjoyed beading in his younger years and doing traditional craftwork in his older years. He loved to sing. He sang at powwows and at Native American Church ceremonies. He was known for his beautiful voice and his songs. Many people enjoyed his singing. He liked to play slots at the casino with his special grandson Michael Demarce.

Zachary loved and cherished all his grandchildren. His favorite was his great-granddaughter Amiyah Hale. He adored her and always had a smile on his face when she was around. He loved to make jokes and make others laugh. He always had a story to tell.

Zachary was a lifelong member and Roadman of the Native American Church. He practiced his traditional ways and hod lots of respect for them.

Zachary was such an important part of the family and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

He is survived by his many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Obed and Hattie; sisters Veronica Thompson-DuMarce, Lena Thompson-Denne, and Olivia Thompson; brothers Ambrose Thompson Sr. and Albert Thompson; aunt Sarah Thompson-BlackCloud; special friend Cynthia PoorBear and several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Casket Bearers for Zachary will be Ambrose Thompson Jr., Myron Harrison, Joey Antsanen, Eric Smith Jr., Billy Brown, James Thompson Jr., and Kevin Brown Sr.
