Green-Wood Cemetery

There are only 14 burials here, but the Johnstons bought up a lot of space in front of their Egyptian temple mausoleum, presumably to avoid being crowded as the years went on. To the left of the mausoleum are elegant individual monuments to James Boorman Johnston and his daughter Margaret Taylor Johnston. To the right of the mausoleum are 2 similar monuments to John Taylor Johnston (brother of James Boorman Johnston) and his wife, Frances Colles Johnson. Next to these are simple cruciform monuments to their sons Colles and John Herbert Johnston, and the latter’s wife, Celestine.

The JOHNSTON name is inscribed in raised letters on the Egyptian revival facade of the Johnston family vaults. In addition to those entombed in the mausoleum other family member have been interred in the yard in front.
