A funeral service for Grace Gertrude Broersma, of 306 Liberty St., Lynden, was held at Third Christian Reformed Church on Monday May 8, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gerrit Sheeres officiating. Interment followed at Monumenta Cemetery.
Mrs. Broersma died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, May 3, 1989, at the age of 83. She was born on Nov. 16, 1905, in Jewel County, Kansas, to Marinus and Annie Wichers. In Ireton, Iowa, on April 4, 1926, she was married to Lawrence Broersma. They came to Lynden from Zilla, Wash., in 1941. Mr. Broersma preceded her in death in 1985. Grace was a homemaker and a member of the Third Christian Reformed Church. She was also active at the Lynden Senior Center.
She is survived by her eight sons, Lloyd and wife Kay of Lynden, Marvin and wife Chris of Byron Center, Mich., Garrett and wife Marlene of Bellflower, Calif., Bob and wife Ruth of Grand Rapids, Mich., Ted and wife Dena of Granger, Wash., Ben and wife Bea of Ada, Mich., Dennis and wife Marcia of Byron Center, Mich., and Ken and wife Carol of Ferndale; four daughters, Marge De Young and husband Neal of Wyoming, Mich., Elsie Roosma and husband Gene of Ferndale, Joyce Friend and husband Clarence of Zillah, and Dorothy Bredeweg and husband John of Byron Center, Mich.; a brother, Ben Wichers, of Royal Oak, Mich., and a sister, Henrietta Thaete of Lynden; 45 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
