Obituary

Hand, Eleanore Poole, age 96, of Minneapolis, formerly of Washington DC, passed away peacefully on February 8th.

Eleanore lived a rich life in the company of her beloved husband, George, from Florida to St. Louis, Louisiana to Tokyo, as they followed his career with the American Red Cross. Prior to marriage, Eleanore lived in D.C. with her mother and father, Daisy and Ernest, working for the National Geographic. After marriage, she became a homemaker.

Eleanore will be remembered for many things: her appreciation of all things beautiful, including dishes, art, fabrics, furniture and Breyer's vanilla ice cream, as well as her fine backrubs, elegant snacks, games of "Old Maid" and infectious giggle. But most of all, she will be remembered for her profoundly gracious nature. Her family continues to learn from her example of moderation and kindness in all matters.

Eleanore is survived and missed by: son and daughter-in-law George (Cal) and Marilynne; granddaughters Tiffany and Amanda and their partners Michael Garry and Johnnie Turner, II; great-grandchildren Alexandra Hand, Johnnie Turner, III, Finnian and Elsa Garry; sister-in-law Dorothy Bock and many nieces and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at Walker Place Chapel, 3701 Bryant Ave. S., Mpls., Sunday, 2/28, at 2:00 pm.
