FULLERTON — Paul Francis Zarek, 79, of Fullerton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Genoa Community Hospital in Genoa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Richard Whiteing will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery at Fullerton, with military rites by Fred Philbrick Post 151 of Fullerton. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul was born July 19, 1936, in Genoa to Frank and Louisa (Rutten) Zarek. He grew up in Genoa and attended Genoa Public School until the 8th grade. He entered the United States Army on Sept. 7, 1954. He served two years, two months, and 25 days in Germany. While there, he received the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 6, 1957.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Steele on Nov. 2, 1957, in Omaha. The couple lived in Valley, where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. They later moved to Fullerton, where he was a business owner.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed being with his family and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow up. He also enjoyed mowing yards and being outside.

Survivors include his wife, Liz of Fullerton; two sons, Rod and Margie (Tichota) Zarek of Columbus and Russell and Danette (Prososki) Zarek of Fullerton; a daughter, Ronda Zarek of Lincoln; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Zarek of Fullerton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Rachel (Zarek) Kuta, Art Zarek, Del Zarek, and Rita (Zarek) Baxa.
