Aged Resident Dies Here Today
Daniel K. Van Valkenburg, aged 78 years, one of the oldest residents of this city, passed away at his home, 122 Marshall street, shortly after five o'clock Wednesday morning after a very short illness, pleurlsy causing death.
Mr. Van Valkenburg was born in New York state on August 18th, 1835, moving to this city shortly before the civil war broke out. He entered into the grocery business here and for several years conducted the largest retail grocery house in the city. He retired several years ago on account of poor health.
He was one of the oldest and most popular Odd Fellows in the city, being a member of local order, No. 29. He was one of the charter members of that order.
Besides the wife, one son, Ira Van Valkenburg, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and one brother, John, are left to mourn his loss.
Funeral arrangements will be made later.

Funeral services for Daniel K. Van Valkenburg will be held Friday afernoon at two o'clock from the residence, 122 Marshall street. The services will be in charge of the Rev. George E. Barnes and SEv. William S. Potter. Burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. The services at the grave will be in charge of the Odd Fellows.
