He was born in Knox City, Texas on September 20, 1935 to Jack and Addie Mae Harper, he was one of four siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte; granddaughter, Laura (Dustin) McElyea; son-in-law, Robert Thurman. Their two children, Randy Harper and Angie Thurman preceded him in death.
Jimmy served overseas in the Army and had a PhD in Sociology and was retired from the North Little Rock School District.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
