A male quartet composed of Bert Vaughn, Chris Vander Pol, Neil McKee and Merle Montgomery sang, "Sometime, Somewhere," and "In The Beautiful Land," accompanied by Mrs. Bert Vaughn, Floral pieces were in charge of Mrs. George Stines and Mrs. Nick DeRonder. O.H. Fisher, John Bruce, Lee Marshall, Ivan Buckley, John walker and clarence Walker served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery with graveside rites by the Knights of Pythias Lodge, No. 166 of Monroe.
Mr. Barnes was born Dec. 24, 1865 [??? 1900 census September 1865] at Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Hodgen and Mary Ann Barnes. The family came to Jasper County in 1869 to settle in the Tool's Chapel neighborhood. He had been engaged in farming since early manhood and had never married. He was the brother of Mrs. Morgan Woody of Reasnor and Howard Barnes of Monroe. Mr. Barnes was a charter member if the Knights of Pythias Lodge, and was one of the oldest members of the order.
