Melvin F. Challender passed on Cot. 15, 2013, surrounded by is loving Family. Melvin was born in Tacoma on Oct 6, 1921. He served in World War II, and was a member of the VFW, DAV #1, and the DVA Blind Association. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Ruth, three children, brother Preston (Claudine, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 2 sisters and 2 brothers. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 pm in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, 41200 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, WA 98499. Visitation will take place on Friday, Oct. 18 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. His family would like to provide a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heartwood Extended Extended Health Care.
