Richard E. Lind, M.D., 63, of Woodstock, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born on October 9, 1951, in Princeton, IL, to Ellis and Vivian (Jenner) Lind, Richard knew from an early age he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. He achieved that dream with 33 years of dedicated service as a general and vascular surgeon.

Dr. Lind completed his undergraduate studies in Champaign-Urbana at the University of Illinois and attended Medical School at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he met his wife of 39 years, Joanne Hoeft. They married on June 12, 1976, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville before relocating to Iowa City, IA. There, he completed his residency and Vascular Fellowship.

Upon moving his family to Woodstock, IL in 1983, he founded Surgical Associates of Fox Valley, in Crystal Lake. For 33 years, he was on the medical staff at Centegra Hospitals in McHenry and Woodstock, and Advocate Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington. Dr. Lind loved caring for his patients, and serving as a hospital board member, Chief of Surgery, Chief Trauma Director, and Chairman of the Cancer Committee.

Dr. Lind was an avid sports fan, who faithfully attended his four sons' sporting events and rarely turned down the chance to catch a Cub's game. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden. He loved music and playing the piano and trumpet.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; and his children, Thomas (Karlyn), Michael (Jennifer), Timothy and Jeffrey. Also surviving are his mother, Vivian; brother, Donald (Susan); and his sister, Denise (James) Guinn; along with 17 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis; his in-laws, Walter and Sophia Hoeft; and sister, Diane Nyman.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 2, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull Valley Rd., McHenry, IL 60050.
