Alfred Buckingham was the son of William B. & Abigail. (Price) Buckingham. He was the twelfth of thirteen children

Alfred married Edna A Van Pelt. They had 1 child, Marcia who never married.

Camp Dennison, Ohio was est. in May 1861 as a Depot for the Volunteer Recruiting Service-War Rec. Dept. Dr. Buckingham a young physician, leased 700 acres to the state.

The first year the camp was used mainly for drill purposes, but after the battle of Pittsburgh Landing in 1862, a hospital was also established. Dr Buckingham was in charge of the 7th Div. Hospital Corps in the 70 wooden barrack, 200 bed hospital.
