John was born on October 13, 1950, in Macon, MO, the son of Glen Wayne and Wilda Clair (Sherer) Morris. He was united in marriage to Barbara Blackford on May 28, 1999 in Moberly, MO. John was a graduate of Macon R-1 High School in 1968 and graduated from Missouri Valley College, where he was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame. He was selected to the NAIA All American Team in 1972. Later had played in the National Football League for the Baltimore Colts and St. Louis Cardinals. He coached at Salisbury, Moberly, South Shelby, Quincy University, Hallsville and was a volunteer Coach at Macon, He started two football programs at Salisbury and Hallsville Schools. He worked at Peabody Coal Company for many years. John enjoyed trips to Canada, mowing the football field, watching birds, and especially watching his grandchildren’s ballgames.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2015, at the Macon R-1 High School Gym in Macon. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelbina. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 pm, Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.
