The family moved to Sanilac County, Michigan in 1855 - previously known as Elk Township, now known as Flynn Township.
Her father, "Thomas Flynn" was the first man buried in Peck Cemetery (Elk Township cemetery). In 1855 Thomas bought part of William Fitch's land and returned the following spring with his family. They were the first family to live in the township section 36. Fitch moved out of the area shortly afterward. Thomas Flynn remained until his death.
In January 1858 her sister, Ruth Ellen Flynn was born, she was the first white child born in the area. The house she was born in is still standing; one mile north of Peck and Melvin roads. In 1869 township elections were held in the home of Thomas Flynn and he was elected supervisor.
Thomas and Rachel had 12 other children, 8 of them born in Michigan.
About 1873 or 1874 Mary married William Plant, they lived and farmed in Fremont Township, Sanilac County. They had three sons, Robert, Roland and Roger. The couple divorced.
On April 6 1885, Mary married Eugene Frost in Custer Township, Sanilac County Michigan. Mary and Eugene had one daughter Helen.
By 1900, Eugene & Mary Elizabeth were living in Milton Oregon, later moving to Walla Walla, Washington
Mary is survived by her three sons, Robert Plant and Rolland Plant of Walla Walla, Washington, and Roger Plant of Grand Rapids Michigan, four grandchildren. Robert, Lawrence, Leslie and Mildred Patterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1925 and daughter Helen Paterson in 1934
