Carl Bruce Roush, 81, of Keosauqua died at 3:08 A.M. Wednesday September 23, 2015 at Keosauqua Health Care Center (formerly Good Samaritan Center). He was born December 2, 1933 in Douds to Ray Samuel and Elsie Clair Barker Roush and married Patsy Kay Steinmeyer July 5, 1953 at Bonaparte Baptist Church. Carl moved as a youth with his family to a farm near Mt. Sterling, graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and Patsy owned the Goodie Garden Café in Keosauqua in the mid-1950’s before he joined the Van Buren County Survey Crew. In 1966 he began working as a livestock feed salesman for Moorman’s and later became a district manager. After he retired from Moorman’s Carl and Patsy returned to Van Buren County to operate a small farm outside Mt. Sterling. During this time he and Patsy partnered with Brad and Brenda in operating the Mt. Sterling Tap and for a few years he operated heavy equipment for Cole Construction Co. Carl was a life-long Methodist and was a member of Beer-Barker Post 113, American Legion, Keosauqua. Throughout his life he was active in his community, coached Little League baseball, was a 4H sponsor and bowled with local bowling teams. He and Patsy were enthusiastic members of the local square dance club in the 1960’s. Carl liked to hunt and fish and took great joy in watching wildlife and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy, five sons, Tim (Nancy) of Milton, Jeff (Celene) and Chris (Regina) of Newton, Brad (Brenda) of Mt. Sterling and Kent (Teresa) of Ottumwa, 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Alice Groene of Annandale, VA and Mildred Hutchinson and Frances Roush of Florissant, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Keith , Samuel and Robert Roush and four sisters, Beatrice Panting, Janice Judd, Louise Nichols and Hazel Jean Roush.

Carl’s body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday September 26, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Jared McAfee officiating. Visitation with family present will be 9:30-10:30 A.M. prior to the service. Burial of cremains will be in Bonaparte Cemetery with military rites by Beer-Barker Post. Memorials to Beer-Barker Post or Good Samaritan Hospice, Ottumwa may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 306 First Street, Keosauqua, IA 52565
