Robert Roush, 85, of Keosauqua, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Born, May 22, 1927, near Douds, he was the son of Ray and Elsie Claire Barker Roush. On Nov. 8, 1952, he married Kathryn Alene "Kay" Walker in Keosauqua.

Mr. Roush grew up in the Douds and Mount Sterling communities. He farmed in rural Keosauqua, worked for the Van Buren County bridge crew and was a sales representative for MoorMan's Feed.

He was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, a 50-year Mason with the Keosauqua Lodge, was active in the Cantril and Keosauqua Lions clubs and served on the Van Buren County Fair Board. He was honored with the Governor's Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom and berry hunting, watching his grandchildren in all their activities, playing cards, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and working with the 4-H members at the fair.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Deb Deming of New Sharon, Diane Mohr of Long Grove, Dixie Daugherty of Mount Sterling and Dynnette Smith of Cantril; one son, Doug Roush of Eddyville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Groene of Annandale, Va., Jean Roush of Keosauqua, and Mildred Hutchinson and Frances Roush, both of St. Louis; and one brother, Carl Roush of Keosauqua.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.

Per his wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa's Department of Anatomy.

An open hour Celebration of Life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at The Bonaparte Inn.

Burial will be at a later date in Center Chapel Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Center Chapel United Methodist Church technology fund or Van Buren Education Foundation.
