Kitchens was the third child born of Eulis and Ada Elizabeth Smith of Aberdeen, Mississippi. After graduation from high school, at 17 years old, she moved to Birmingham and worked for First Savings and Loan Bank for six years. She married Charles the last day of 1950 and moved to Parrish, where she lived for 63 years. Their entire married lives, they were very faithful members of Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church.
They were blessed with one son and three daughters. Kitchens was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She managed all the bookwork for Charles’ water well and farming business while caring for and maintaining her home and teaching her children. She tended to her household well. She was a living example of the Proverbs 31 woman. They believed in teaching and emphasizing to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren respect, responsibility and appreciation, so that they would be good citizens and demonstrate biblical principles in every area of their lives.
Kitchens was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles G. Kitchens; brothers, Stanton, John David and Fred Smith; sister, Clara Smallwood; and great-grandson, Kent Aday.
She is survived by her son, Charles David Kitchens (Kay) of Tuscaloosa; daughters, Melinda Blair (Tom) of Vestavia, Lauretta Price (Tony) of Jasper and Sharon Wouters of Jasper; grandchildren, Beth Stephenson (Mark) of Hoover, Aimee Aday (Ken) of Muscle Shoals, Rebecca Black (Phil) of Vestavia, Greg Kitchens (Kelli) of Northport, Laurel Jacobs (Greg) of Owensboro, Kentucky, Brett Price (Morgan) of San Antonio, Texas, Riley Blair (Caroline) of Dothan, Blaire Wouters of Phoenix, Arizona, Lee Wouters of Birmingham, Brian Price of Waco, Texas, and Austin Wouters of Birmingham; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Hanson of Amory Mississippi, Mildred Allen (Phillip) of Huntsville and Anita Boyd of Memphis, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Mable Howell and Lucy Smith of Aberdeen, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
