Obituary for Ellen Jane Short Horn
Absent from the body, present with Jesus at last, Ellen Jane Horn was carried by angels to the land of the living, destination Heaven, on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family at her home in the Marvin area as she drew her last breath. She had struggled with COPD for several years and had fought a long hard battle.

Ellen was born on Horn Mountain in Buchanan County, VA 69 years ago to the late John Alden and Lovis Reevy Horn Short. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her world revolved around her family. If you knew Ellen, you would know that she was a woman of honor and a firm believer in hard work. She worked several years in the meat and produce department of Rex’s Grocery store; and worked 21 years for Dr. Clint and Faith Sutherland. Ellen was well known for saying, “You can do better than that”, whether she was encouraging those around her or negotiating down the price of something she was trying to buy. She had lived her whole life in Buchanan County and was of the Christian faith. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was reunited in heaven with her sister, Pearl Osborne; and brothers, Roger and Johnny Short.

Those who remain to carry on her spirit and legacy are:
Her husband of 52 years, Grady Horn of Raven, VA

Daughter: Regina A. Hall and husband, Larry of Swords Creek, VA

Son: Jackie Horn and wife, Andrea of Raven, VA

Grandson: Matthew Horn and wife, Laken of Hurley, VA

Granddaughters:
Amanda Horn and boyfriend, Adam Keen of Abingdon, VA
Cassie Horn and husband, Mark of Bristol, TN

Great grandchild, Jaxon Matthew Horn

Daniel Short and wife, Ina Mae of Claypool Hill, VA
