Roger Lee Short was the son of John Alden and Lovis Reavy Horn Short, both Buchanan County natives. He was a disabled coal miner.
He loved to camp out and fish. He also loved the trips that were made to the beach. He was well known for his smile, and good natured personality, and he was always tinkering on an automobile, either his or someone else's. He enjoyed life to its fullest and never slowed down unless he was so sick that he couldn't do anything. He loved to garden and had already started planting one before he passed away, even though he had only been out of the hospital for a few weeks.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to all that knew him. He passed away his home on Greystone Lane in Raven, VA. (Red Ash portion) He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law Roger Osborne,his father-in-law Kenneth Walters, and mother-in-law Ethel Bernice Byrd Walters.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years Peggy Carol Walters Short, sons, Kenneth Aaron Smith of Kodak TN., Jamie Lee Short of the home, daughters: Catherine Lovis Osborne, Raven, Cassie Marie Byrd, Honaker, Bridgett Quinley, Bradshaw WV., daughter-in-law Pamela Smith, Kodak; sons-in-laws Jasonlee Osborne, Sr., Raven, VA. and Kenneth Byrd,Honaker, VA. ;grandsons:Jasonlee Dwight Osborne, Jr. and Codylee William Osborne, Raven, and Ethanlee Nathaniel Quinley Bradshaw,WV.; brothers: Dannie D. Short and wife Ina Mae,Cedar Bluff, VA., Louis Short and wife Carol Raven, VA., James Jr. Short and wife Faye Doran, VA.
