Veteran Rev. War. S.C. Militia under Col. Thomas Brandon. Served May-August of 1776 under Col. Raman, Major Benjamin Jolly, Capt. Patton against the Tories; Drafted in the Spring of 1777 as a Militiaman under Col. Buffington, discharged in Spring of 1780; Reenlisted in Summer of 1780 same Company and served till close of war. Ref: Pension W 3876; South Carolina Audited Account Book X, number 3112. No. 112. Also his Twin Brother William Shaw's Pension R9446.

Obit: Gilbert Shaw of Jasper Co., is dead at the age of 85 years. Was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. He was instantly killed when a Tornado completely demolished his home where he and his aged wife and daughter and grand daughter were living. Mrs. Shaw was dangerously injured, and the daughter hurt: the granddaughter was not hurt. /every building on the place was destroyed. No other home in the community was blown down.

He was the son of Capt. Daniel Shaw 1730-1783 and his wife Catherine Watson 1730-1819 who was also his cousin.
