Barthel - John Barthel of Elkhart received a telegram informing him of the death of his brother Alfred Barthel at Elkader, Iowa. Mr. Barthel was the son of the late C.A. Barthel of Jefferson township and for a number of years he was a prominent teacher in that township. About 15 years ago he removed to Elkader, Ia., where he was engaged in school work. He leaves a wife and six children. Also three brothers and two sisters, John and Henry Barthel of Elkhart; Mrs. Alfred Kane and Assessor Lewis Barthel of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Cripe of Clinton township. He will be buried at his home in Iowa.
